A little more care. A lifetime of companionship. Meet your companion ↗
THE GOOD GUIDE

The best beginnings
start with a little care.

A companion is a commitment. These conversations can help you make a considered choice.

01

Start with your everyday life.

Think about time, space, costs, travel and the people who share your home. Research the species and the care you can provide throughout the pet’s life.

02

Get to know the people.

Ask who raised the pet, where they live, and what a typical day looks like. A conversation should give both sides space to ask questions.

03

Make time to meet.

Arrange a visit to the pet’s current home and observe the environment. For puppies and kittens, ask to meet the mother and learn about early handling and routines.

04

Look at the records together.

Ask to see health, registration and microchip records where applicable. Compare them with the pet and seller, and seek independent veterinary advice.

05

Pause before a commitment.

Avoid pressure to decide immediately. Do not send a deposit before meeting the pet and seller. Agree arrangements in writing and keep records of your conversations.

06

Prepare a gentle welcome.

Plan the journey, first days, habitat and ongoing care. Ask about food and habits, and arrange species-appropriate professional advice when needed.

Irish Pets is a marketplace, not a veterinary service or a guarantee of a seller’s claims. Check current local requirements and seek qualified advice about individual health or legal questions. Use “Report a concern” on a listing if something feels wrong.
